3 Ways to Maintain a Christian Household
Ephesians 5 gives us instructions for a Christian household.
"Wives submit to your husbands...in everything" (Ephesians 5:22-24)
It's interesting we start with wives being instructed to submit to their husbands. You know what they say, Happy Wife...Happy Life.
What are practical ways a wife can submit to her husband?
- Through knowing and understanding their love language.
- Showing respect through what is important to them.
- Treating them as the leader of your household in front of others.
- Allowing them to lead your family.
"Husbands love your wives" (Ephesians 5:25-27)
Women desire to feel loved. When we respect our husbands we give him the opportunity to love us well. There are times, as women, we feel insecure and question who loves us or how they could love us, including our husband.
What do you do when you're feeling insecure?
- Communicate your insecurities.
- Pray away the devil's lies.
- Be intentional with your spouse.
"Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father & mother" (Ephesians 6:1)
How do we teach our children to honor their parents? How does this teach them to honor Christ?
- Set the example.
- It's no surprise the Bible first addresses husbands and wives before addressing children. They learn by our example. They see how we treat one-another and mimic our actions. It's important to remember what we do directly impacts our whole family unit.
- Help them memorize scripture that teaches them honor and respect.
- Pray for their hearts to be receptive and obedient to God's word.
- Teach them honor and respect through Biblical discipline.
It's important to remember you can follow Christ, living a life according to His will, and have children that chose not to. Our job as parents is to pray for our children, their salvation, and obedience to Christ. We can't chose their salvation but we should pray hard and continuously for their hearts to be soften to Jesus Christ.
